About New Nations

New Nations unveils the power structure of the Internet and extends the existing digital network into a new dimension. It creates new Internet addresses (ccTLD) for unacknowledged groups such as the Tibetans, the Kurds, the Tamils, the Uigurs, the Sahrauis and others.

As a community project, New Nations tests new forms of global togetherness and communicative exchange.

National power relations inscribe themselves into the communication system.

Every single Internet address is subject to the power-structure that lies behind the World Wide Web.

The U.S. American network (.com .mil .gov) got established worldwide, because the nations and governments could maintain their own sphere of control (.de .fr .ch). The conception of the Internet domain registry creates a system that is controlled by the US administration which grants and assigns itself certain rights to other national governments and administrations. Global exchange is therefore subjected to national considerations and superimposed by national law.

Internet addresses are nowadays also used in a playful way. Through new Top Level Domains the registration system also gets heavily commercialized. Behind the Internet addresses still lurks the power of control of the individual nations that coordinate via the ICANN, the organization for managing the assignments of domain names. From this multilateral agreement and it’s bound powers emanates the fundamental power of decision that regulates who can express what and how in the communication space.

World Wide Web

Surfing the World Wide Web we remain deluded to be in a space of freedom of expression and freedom of information but the info war controls us in that precise spot. The division and control of the digital data network by national states marginalizes those communities that are oppressed by displacement and censorship. They can only constitute themselves as a subculture within other national and commercial systems of the digital data space. In these countries of refuge the suppressed communities only have limited opportunities to organize and articulate themselves. The result is that statements are censored and web services are shut down - even in third party countries due to bilateral concessions.

As a result of the 9/11 attacks, the US declared the War On Terrorism. Judith Butler describes the beginning of a new global dimension of governmentality (governance power): In contrast to citizens, the prisoners in Guantánamo have no access to a basic legal order nor do they benefit from the protection of their fundamental human rights. There is no way these prisoners can legitimize their existence; they are stigmatized as terrorists and are segregated without a voice. Even their struggle for recognition has been declared to be an act of terror.

The emancipation, legitimation and finally legalization of non nationally established communities is made impossible by the powers power of definition. This general exclusion leads to a situation where every manifestation can be suppressed as propaganda or agitation. Info war and the exclusion of terrorists no longer refers just to Afghanistan alone, no: The Chinese for example declare the manifestations of the Uigurs and the Tibetans to be such acts of terrorism, the Thais declare that to be the expressions of the Patanis, the Israelis declare that to be the uprise of the Palestinians etc.

Virtual Nations - Real Chances

It is not the aim of New Nations to reconstruct a National State system nor incite territorial conflict - on the contrary - an open communication structure allows a communicative exchange which is able to stand different perspectives. It may even overcome these different perspectives through rapprochement and comprehension. What a contrast to war, acts of terrorism or highhanded acts of state which strengthen existing positions to the bloody end.

The community project New Nations implements an own structure to the Internet, where the existing infrastructure displays the power systems and oppresses whole communities. The power structure of the existing Internet has to be reorganized, discussed and regularised alternatively in a community.

New Nations creates new Top-Level-Domains for groups, population and cultures, unacknowledged by national states - such as the Tibetans, the Kurds, the Tamils, the Uigurs, the Sahrauis and others. Those groups are no longer presented as demonstrators, victims or bombers.

The limiting and segregating propaganda and counter propaganda are replaced by a new communication culture that allows individual representation and cultural exchange. Trough self-manifestation and the provided freedom of speech a cultural potential can unfold even in everyday customs such as cooking recipes, religious questions, sport events, daily rituals and artworks. New Nations investigates how cultures, groups and upcoming nations can express themselves in the digital age of communication outside of our power-political arranged national communication structure - even across the borders of existing power blocs regardless of a military strategic occupation of the terrain.

The identity creating addresses and the consistent accessibility are not the only unifying meta-level of New Nations. It offers access via search engines and indexes which make the complex cultural, political, artistic and religious contents for the first time centrally reachable.

Everyone can participate in New Nations, can create new addresses, setup new name servers and propose new Top-Level-Domains. After having configured your own computer you will have instant access to the domain names and the network of New Nations.

New Nations opens a new dimension of virtual, global and intercultural exchange on which everybody can participate freely.
